Here is the Older Adult Competency that you will demonstrate:

Plan, implement, and evaluate care that promotes optimal aging.

Here are components that help build this Optimal Aging competency:

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate interventions based on evidence-based standards to reduce risk, screen, immunize, and promote healthy aging in older adults.
  • Plan and evaluate strategies to promote/maintain physical and mental function and engagement with life in older adults.
  • Use technology to enhance older adults' physical and mental function, autonomy, engagement with life, and safety.
  • Plan and evaluate strategies to promote optimal sleep, to overcome barriers to optimal nutrition and hydration, and to encourage goal-setting and beneficial lifestyle choices in older adults.
  • Plan and evaluate interventions to prevent or reduce common risk factors that contribute to functional decline, impaired quality of life, and excess disability in older adults.
  • Access resources to evaluate the utility of complementary and integrative health care practices on health promotion and symptom management for older adults.
  • Facilitate older adults' active participation in their own health care.
